Let us share what we love with you!

What is Decorative Painting?

Decorative Painting is a visual art form, which has enabled people from the earliest times to express and share their innate creativity.

The use of paints and brushes allows the artist to decorate and personalize their surroundings, adding a touch of human warmth and artistry to their world.

Decorative art holds appeal for all levels of talent and wide ranges of interest. Painting can be done in oils, watercolors, or acrylics. Tole Painting is the general term used to describe decorative painting on tin surfaces. Both "Tole Painting" and "Folk Art Painting" are terms that have been used to describe Decorative Painting.

Decorative painting is a learned skill, much as handwriting or walking. Artistic talent and drawing ability are not required.

Patterns and instructions abound to aid the decorative painter in all areas of art. An introduction to the basic brush strokes and combinations, along with blending techniques and color mixing soon has an aspiring artist well on the way to satisfying their desire to paint and create.

Decorative artists draw inspiration from many ethnic art forms. The scope broadens as we continue to re-discover old techniques, experiment with new ones and pass our discoveries on to others through classes and instruction books. Approached with an open mind, decorative painting offers opportunities for artistic self-expression and creative satisfaction.
